Landing Internships In CS

Landing Internships In CS

Hey guys, hope everyone had an amazing Labor Day weekend. Todays post it a bit different from all the programming and setup stuff I have been posting about for the past few weeks now. Today I want to talk about the one thing that everyone looks for after completing 2 or even 1 year(s) of college studying computer science. That is INTERNSHIPS! Yes today I want to talk about how to look for and land internships.

How To Find A Internship

First let's discuss how to find internship programs. There are so many different jobs board sites out there now like Indeed, Glassdoor and Monster. The most common way to find internship programs is to just search google or one of those job board sites. While this may seem obvious and easy, it's not really the best way to go about find opportunities in internships. The reason is most of the time, those positions could already be filled but the employer could have forgotten to remove that job ad from that job board site. The best and almost equally easy way to do this is to make a list of all companies you would like to intern for. Like applying to college have the reach companies, the fallbacks that you know you can get into and then in between some that could be a bit more challenging but not as challenging as your reach. Then, go through their websites and apply to the opportunities that seem to catch your eye or that you may be better suited to fill that position.

Landing That Dream Internship

Now, you have found the one internship that you feel you are a good fit for. Now, how do you improve your chances of landing it? There are some easy ways to do so. First, improve your resume by adding projects you have done that show off your ability to accomplish those skills. You should also specify and previous jobs that you have had or have currently. Don't worry if they are not all tech jobs because all employers are looking for is that you can work in a team environment and maybe also a high speed environment as well. The next best thing to do is work on a portfolio website which not only has open source and your own projects but other things about you like hobbies or maybe even a blog that you have started(like on hashnode.com ;) ) which will show them that you really know what you are talking about but are good at other things besides just the job you are applying to. Remember it is very important to be a very well rounded person. Now this last one is kind of weird but it helped me so I'm sure it could be of some help to you as well. And this final tip is to be active on certain social media platforms where you can discuss projects you are working on and you can also post your own tips and tricks with each post which in turn helps a lot of other developers out there.

Thats it for me today! Thank you guys for checking this out and see you guys next week! Peace!
